Going to Church is not a check mark for being a good person
Over the past 2 years we have heard from the Republican party and many of its members (I’m not going to use MAGA because in my opinion they are not making American Great Again) have injected religion into the discussion. The use of religion in this way not only contradicts their message but is also not what the founders intended and believed themselves. But most importantly this idea that religion automatically makes you a good person is a dangerous idea to promote.
Being a good person is something that we should all promote. A good person comes from all backgrounds, all corners of the globe, all incomes, all ages and all religions and also good people can not even practice religion at all. Likewise, some people who practice religion can also be bad people and in some cases even be religious leaders.
Religion is not a check mark to signify that you’re a good person. When Trump stood up for a picture event holding a bible in front of a church this was exactly what he was doing. Trust me because I’m religious.
I want to conclude with a question.
Is it more important to go to church without character or to not practice actively practice religion and have character?
